Bathroom #3, The Final Frontier

Well, you can't just re-do only 2 bathrooms! This is the piece of furniture we purchased at the flea market to be the vanity in the "powder room". We have the faucet, now we have to get the vessel sink. More to come.

Bathroom #2, The Saga Continues

We finished bathroom 2 of 3. It is great IMHO.

Water Conservation - Philosophy Question

Our esteemed Governor has asked all North Carolinians to reduce their water consumption by 50%. If a household already is conserving how exactly do they do that?
If your household turns off the water while brushing teeth, takes short showers and only washes full loads of laundry and dishes, what's left?
I believe this is an example of the "bad child" syndrome..... Let me explain.
Good children do what they're told, learn from their mistakes, make good choices, do their best in school, etc.
For this they (hopefully) become productive citizens of society with little need for social or parental interventions be it in time or money.
Bad children do what they please, make the same poor choices over and over, fritter away the resources given to them, etc. For this they are frequently given extra attention, time and social and parental resources.
So good children have the satisfaction of a job well done, while bad children have lots of fun and get bailed out of trouble frequently. When a good child needs a little extra cash, they get a second job or take out a loan. Bad children freeload and usually get "free" money (or whatever the current need is) that they neither earned or deserve.
I believe the good children of North Carolina will soon be punished for already conserving by being forced to cut their already meager water consumption by 50%, while it will be relatively easy for the bad children of North Carolina to reduce their consumption because they have done nothing to help water conservation to this point.....sigh.
Yet another example of excellent government thought processes.

Observations

1. If a car has cruise control but nobody uses it......wait.....why don't they use it?
2. Why don't the "up-scale" grocery stores have items in stock so I can pay their inflated prices and then get out of there?
3. What is the financial stability of a person who has a very nice Lexus and has to go in to pay cash for their gas?

****sigh******

Just A Thought

If you're savvy enough to post something for sale on Craigslist, how about a photo to go with the post? There are some pretty inexpensive digital cameras out there that would do a completely adequate job.
Think about it,

A New Day, A New Hard Drive

Well, I have installed my THIRD new hard drive (in 26 months) into my Dell laptop. Do not say I didn't warn you. After the first drives failure I purchased a Western Digital external drive and software for disaster recovery in the event I had another failure in the future (ha ha ha).
I have been diligently backing up my computer. Long story short, after several hours over 3 days of frustration, I finally was able to use the restoration set I had made and reload my "stuff" and most of my settings onto the new drive. It was not intuitive and very, very frustrating using the WD drive and the software provided. Western Digital gets the non-support award today (and it's still early).

Bathroom Re-Do, Final Episode

Well, it's finally done! There will be a little tweaking with the addition of photos and shells from vacation but this fabulous retreat came in less than $300 over budget and on time ....I should be a contractor!

Hello From Vacation #2

Hi ya'll! Just like to share a thought with you......
I don't think I'll be as worried about my carbon footprint now that I've seen this!
I didn't recognize a single one of the 8 people who came ashore from the ship close to where we were sunning :-)
Au Revoir :-p

Live from Vacation

Hello out there! Here's a quick pic of one of the Diva's at her first photo shoot!
Since a bad sport tattled on my "what's to come auction" on the 'bay, I thought I'd post a little something here ;-p
Au Revoir!

That Nursing Thing Comes in Handy Sometimes

I was debating how to get the dog's pills ready for her caregivers.
Voila! I've done it for humans, why not dogs?

Final Bathroom Update Coming Soon!

Yearning to see the final product? The glass for the shower was not right the first time they came to install it. Round 2 is now installed and as soon as I am able to clean it (have to wait 48 hours after install) and the sun comes out (better shots) there will be new pics....stay tuned!

Clean-out challenge! OR Why do I have so much floss?

As a part of our bathroom renovation, I decided to look into those scary drawers that most of us have!
You know the ones!
The drawers that hold the 1/2 used containers that we think we might need again, buttons for shirts we no longer own, cosmetics we can't part with although they are old as the hills.
I took out 5 bags of such items to the trash yesterday. This is a pic of the floss found in my most used drawer. Don't tell my dentist, but I hate to floss and do so under only the most extreme conditions. Therefore I really don't need 5 containers of floss!
I challenge you to dig into a drawer today and get rid of some items you don't use or need!

Update #7

Well, the walls are painted and the mirrors too! The towels bars, etc are back in place.
As you can see the trim is not yet finished but the paint is drying on it as I speak!
I spent a part of yesterday looking for containers to go on the shelves that will go on the walls.
Did you follow that?
Also found what I hope will be the window treatments with only slight modification :-)
When will the glass be here????

Update #6

As things are now. The tile needs to be cleaned of residual grout haze.
We have a toilet (no longer at the foot of the bed) and faucets and trim!

We Should NOT Be Allowed Out!!

Where are we???

Big Surprises!

We went to Clemson to visit Kate. Unknown to Clyde I conspired with the girls to have Kelly and Brent up from LA too! Then Kelly and Brent suprised all of us with an engagement!!
We also got to meet Kate's boyfriend Matt :-)
We had a great weekend!

Making Progress Update #5

Tile work is nearing completion. Grout is on the schedule for tomorrow.
The glass has been ordered. Soon it will be time to paint :-P

77 sheep seized from Apex home

My friend Patricia from Rover Club House just called to tell me something exciting! It seems that my former Rover Monty (as seen in the photo), is a celebrity!

He is currently owned by the infamous Apex sheep farmer! Sheep have been known to travel in Monty in the past.

From a life of beach leisure to sheep transporter…..poor Monty!

Everyone Needs one of these in Their Bedroom!

What more can I say?

Out with the Old ~ Update #4

The plumber came late last week. He took out the old tub faucet and put the new faucet workings in with the exception of the trim (so it doesn't get damaged with the tile work). He also put a new liner in the shower floor.

Bathroom Re-Do Update #3-A ~ Day 1

Well, we're in the middle of it now!

Bathroom Re-Do Update #3 - Demo Day #1

As you can see, demolition has begun!

Bathroom Re-Do Update #2

Well, our work is done.... for now. We were going to install recessed lights that could be focused on different elements but we found this great halogen light fixture. It allows us much greater flexibility positioning the focal points. As an added feature we adjusted one light on the shower and we can now see in there! See how the light bathes the walls?
In addition, we replaced the almost 20 year old exhaust fan with a much quieter version from Hunter that has a light too! It also has a night light that we declined to wire. BTW, did you know there is such a thing as glow-in-the-dark grout?
I can hardly wait until the tile is in, the walls painted and all the new wall elements (many already purchased) are up!
The tile work will start on Wednesday, otherwise known as demo day :-P

Bathroom Re-Do Update #1

Next is the new light fixture, coming this weekend!

Now a NEW Feature: Ecclydeiastes

Miss Linda's subserviant day laborer began to wonder at about this point what the value of $300 really was to him...

Bathroom Re-Do

We finally got a decent quote to semi-remodel the master bath, right after we had decided to just get new shower glass and live with what we had....
We decided to scrape the popcorn off the ceiling and patch and repaint ourselves to save $300. The scraping was quite easy, just messy. The patching is drying as we speak. Here are some before, during and after pics of the job so far.
Oh, BTW we also installed a new fan and will be putting up new lighting :-0

Email Etiquette - Reply or Reply to ALL - Know the Difference

Now for the rant of the day:

There is a choice of 2 buttons to use when replying to an email.

They are:
1. Reply
2. Reply TO ALL

Reply indicates that you (the sender) is sending a reply to the one person who sent you the email.

REPLY TO ALL indicates that EVERYONE who received the original email will receive your response.

For Pete's sake people, I do not want to know Sally (who I do not know and do not wish to know) in North Dakota's feelings about Uncle Chester's prostate health and cousin Myrtle's new tattoo! Be careful!! In some situations this type of reply can be awkward at best and very bad/embarrassing at the worst.

To be covered at a future date....BCC. Stay Tuned :-p

Excellent Customer Service

My Skagen watch had a warranty issue. I called the toll free number, which was answered by a human and I was told to send it in with a check for 8.95. I was told turn around time was about 3 weeks.
I received the watch back in 20 days. It appears to be an entirely new watch.
Way to go Skagen!!!

Got the passports out last night and went to Cary to eat at

Felted Purse

My first attempt took 2 sweaters and a fair amount of time to construct.
There are some substantial contraints to size and shape of the bag when you're cutting around sleves and such!
In blue, winter white and brown.

DMV Words of Wisdom

OK, this is very important and you MUST listen to Miss Linda:

ALWAYS make an appointment when planning a visit to the NCDMV. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes while other saps were standing in line just to get a number! With an appointment you just cut to the front of the line at the given time (just like Disney!)
Also, bring your checkbook or a lot of cash. The new licenses are for 8 years at $4 a year. If you're a sex offender be prepared to sign some weird statement.
Lastly, if visiting the Capital Blvd location forget about what to wear as the picture is such a tight shot that no clothing will show (and my pink shirt would have looked so nice with the blue background).
Miss Linda is finished with her pearls of wisdom for today :-)

Let's Try the Pics Again!

Fun At Frankies

Took the extended family to Frankies. The kid I took out on the GoKarts is recovering nicely!
